Caleb Occasional Chair
Overview
Immerse yourself in the essence of modernity with the Caleb chair by MaxDivani. Its sleek and minimalist design seamlessly combines contemporary aesthetics with functionality. The Caleb chair is one of the most simple and contemporary design — and its restraint is its greatest strength.
Design Aesthetic: Simplicity as the Design Statement
The Caleb occupies the quietest, most restrained position in MaxDivani’s living room lineup. Where the Amos reviewed in this series is described as “most contemporary and sophisticated” and defined by its strict cubic composition, decorative Punto Cavallo stitching, and truffle-pattern back detail, the Caleb is described simply as “most simple and contemporary.” Simplicity is not a diminished here — it is a deliberate design stance. The Caleb embodies elements of simplicity; the metal legs embody elements of modernity. The result is a chair that integrates into a wide range of interior contexts without asserting itself visually, making it one of the most versatile accent chairs.
The slick structure — clean geometric lines, squared arms, no visible seam complexity, no decorative stitching — gives the Caleb an architectural, almost residential-hotel quality. It is the kind of chair that reads as an interior designer’s deliberate choice rather than a retail purchase: confident in its restraint, resolved in its proportions.
Construction & Materials
Frame: Hardwood structure — consistent with standard construction across the Caleb collection. Solid hardwood provides the rigidity needed for the Caleb’s clean geometric lines without flex or softening at the edges.
Upholstery: Leather — available in Grade 20 (Texas leather) as standard stocked colors, with special orders available across the full leather catalog spanning Grade 20 (Texas), Grade 40 (Satin and Vincent), and fabric options. Texas leather is a protected, semi-shiny leather with buffed and embossed grain, 1.3–1.5mm thickness — durable and well-suited for an accent chair that sees regular use.
Legs: Metal legs — the Caleb’s modern differentiator. The leg finish shown in the photo is a matte warm gray that coordinates tightly with the Light Taupe leather. Metal legs are available in multiple finishes through the special order system.
Cushioning: Foam fill — providing shape retention and a firm, defined seating profile consistent with the chair’s geometric character.
At 36"W × 38"D × 34"H, the Caleb has a notably compact width for an armchair with arms — 36" is tight compared to lounge chairs like the Loki (30"W) and Boca (25"W — though those are narrower armless designs) and consistent with the proportions of the Amos armchair (35"W × 38"D × 34"H). The 38" depth is identical to the Amos collection — confirming a consistent seat depth standard across their armchair lineup.
The 18" seat height is at the lower end of standard seating height (typically 17"–20"), giving the Caleb a relaxed, low-to-the-ground Italian lounge posture. The 22" seat depth is standard for an accent/lounge chair — comfortable for extended sitting without being as deep as a full lounge chair.
Stocked Colors vs. Special Order
In-stock (quick ship):
Light Taupe — warm sandy gray-beige (shown in the photo)
Light Grey — cool, soft gray
Special order: Available in all MaxDivani leather grades and colors, and all wood/metal leg options. The full Texas (Grade 20) promotional palette includes Vanilla, Light Taupe, Texas Orange, Navy, Pecan Brown, and Light Grey — plus the full Satin and Vincent upper leather tiers for a more premium upholstery finish.
